my photos
here are the questions which need answers:
(1): The main subject of this photo is a dried up flower that is by the side of my house.
(2): I took this picture because my parents were outside and I wanted to hear what they were saying. I also wanted to take some other pictures outside, and I came upon this dried up flower plant by the side of our house. I used this picture as a still life. I never really liked this flower when it was "alive", but it looks really cool when it is dried up!
(3): The photo focuses attention on the flower in this picture because the background is simplified in this picture, which draws anyone's eye to the thing in focus; the flower...
(4): This picture uses the rule of thirds and the background simplification. This picture would not be nearly as good looking if those elements were not there.
(5): A few of the flower petals on the ends were cut off by a small amount, and I wish that they could be whole petals, but that is always difficult to get all the petals on pictures of flowers.

(2): I took this picture at my grandparent's house on Mother's Day. My mom was playing with her and she was laughing a lot. I wanted to get a good picture of her, and it turned out that I was able to get one. Since Gwen is related to me, and she is cute, this picture means something to me.
(3): The focus is on Gwen because she takes up the whole frame. The lighting is on her, which also emphasizes her.
(4): In this picture, there is a strong interest in the dead center, there is also good contrast in this photo.
(5): If the lighting was a bit different, her hair at the top of the picture could be a little bit softer, and her full curl on the left side is cut off a bit, and I would like it to be there.

(2): I took this picture kind-of in passing because we had stopped in a neighborhood in Illinois at the top of this big hill to see a cool view, and I looked over and saw this long walkway to a house, and I really wanted to take a picture of it, because it looked really cool.
(3): The focus is on the gate because it is one of the biggest things in the frame and it has darker coloring than all the bushes and sidewalk that are right next to it.
(4): In this picture, the gate is on the rule of thirds, and the pathway uses leading lines.
(5): Something that could improve this picture would to be more level, and part of the right gate post is out of the picture, which, I wish it could be there. The tops of the bushes are cut off, and it could look better with them not cut off like they are.

this is my life
My name is Sarah, and this is my life...
Well, first of all, I like to take pictures (a lot). I like to let a picture come to me. Most of the time I don't hunt for pictures. Sometimes I see a glance of something and I know I should take a picture of it.
I have a 13, in a couple months 14 year old sister, named Hannah. She is funny and creative. One day she came up behind me with a magazine clipping that I had cut out of two eyes and held it up to her face. When I turned around I was so surprised. Hannah is the best little sister ever.
At my old house in Waterloo and my current home we have had a Magnolia tree in our yard. At our old house, my sister and I would always want to climb the tree, but mom said it was too old and fragile for us to climb on it. I love that I can have something that connects my two homes together.
My Grandpa Steve, who is my mom's dad, has helped us a lot with both of our houses. When I was in second grade, we redid our kitchen in our old house. He helped my parents with the kitchen. When we moved to our new house he was there almost everyday when I came home after school in the beginning of the year. Last week he helped us put in our new front door.
I only have one cousin on my dad's side of the family. Her name is Gwendolyn (Gwen), and she my only 1st cousin who lives in Iowa. I get to see her once or twice a month. She can be very sweet, and also not so sweet sometimes. I was very lucky to get such a cute picture of her. I also have 7 other cousins : Collin, Tyler, Austin, Josiah, Savannah, Elijah, and Kelsey, who all live out of state and are from my mom's side of the family.
I have a lot of friends from school, and all of them are great. They do funny things and cool things. Anything that sounds fun, they will do it. Together the lot of us will do things that others would find very strange, just looking at us. We enjoy to swing on free days in gym, and play king of the (dirt) hill. I have captured a fun thing that they did. At the top of a hill they were running down, I was taking a picture at the bottom hoping not to get run over by my friends.
Rachel and I have been best friends since 2nd grade. For the past 8 years we have done a lot together. In 5th grade, we went to state for Invention Convention. I can not list all the things that we have done together, but it has been fun. She always can make a face or do something that can make anyone laugh.
Every summer my mom plants a garden, and every year I get to help weed the garden. We plant a lot vegetables in the garden; from onions, asparagus, and bell peppers and more. Every year we plant a couple squash seeds, and it seems that we always have an over flow of squash, and always end up eating squash throughout summer and well into the fall. The garden is really a big part of my summer, and that is okay with me.
My sister and I walk to school every day. It is a great time to be outside; before and after school. We often have to dodge things that are on the side walk that fall from trees. When it rains, everything is all wet, which is not fun to walk on. When there is no snow on the ground, and there is a small amount of snow falling from the sky, it is so beautiful. Hannah and I usually talk on the way to and from school. We sometimes even make up a story or sing on the way.
This year I was a part of Cyber Defense. We did really well at our competition, and the team that I was on got 1st in the Cyber Defense competition, which was a part of a large IT OLYMPICS competition which also had game design and robotics. The other team from our school got 2nd place, which is really cool. It was a really fun bonding experience with my friends. We really learned a lot at this competition; well, at least I did. I did not know very much at all when I came into this, and now I know a lot more, which I will probably have to re-learn next year.
Speech is always something that I am involved in every year, and it takes up most of my winter months. One of the best parts of a Large Group Speech competition, is that you are with a lot of people, and you get to have fun when it isn't your group's turn or anyone else you may know. It feels so good to be with people that you are friends with while working together toward one common goal; and it is fun to act and be silly! Individual Speech is somewhat different, where you are just alone, but all your schoolmates are with you watching, only if they don't have a time slot at the same time (Individual speech is kind of hectic the way scheduling goes...).

storybook
There once was a young girl. She was always happy and would accept any challenges that came her way.
One day her friends challenged her to go to the creepy old house down the block and go inside. The young girl could not back away from a challenge, and she told them she was not afraid.
They did not go with her. As she approached the house, a cat meowed right by her feet. She gasped, but then realized a small cat could not harm her.
She walked a bit farther, although she was shaken up, she told herself it was okay. She finally came to the gate of the old creepy house. It was really creepy and had a chain hanging on it, but the young girl told herself to not be afraid, because surely she had done scarier things before. She opened the gate and walked down the long pathway.
She arrived at the door, and it was unlocked. She was very surprised that the door of the old creepy house was open, and that no one had tried to get in before. But as she was thinking that she heard a loud noise. She turned and ran away from the old creepy house. This was the only challenge she had ever not completed, but it surely was the scariest!I am sorry this story is so cheesy!!!
